About Us

What Arefuge is about.

A.Refuge is a magazine covering music, art, fashion, and entertainment. The editorial content is designed to not only give readers insight about who the people we feature are, but to educate them about both the artistic and business sides of being a professional artist. In addition to the site functioning as a magazine, it is also a community. Users are able to create profiles and share their own artwork with other users and leave feedback for each other. A.Refuge is sure to become the premiere spot for artists and fans of all mediums to converge. We're all glad you found your way here.

Contributors.

There have been many people have have helped contribute to Arefuge.com. We greatly appreciate everything they have done for us. All of them are listed below. Now if only they would smile and update their profile pictures =)

Gary Livingston

Founder
Editor in Chief

One could say that Gary is the mastermind behind A.Refuge. About four years ago, he decided he wanted to start a magazine and community to help expose and promote other artists as well as give him a safe avenue to pursue his own photographer dreams.

He spent three years planning what A.Refuge should be and filled up five spiral notebooks with sketches and ideas. Once he was on the verge of graduating college, he decided it was time to find a talented team of web designers and programmers to help him make A.Refuge a reality. It was then he enlisted two of his trusted and badass friends, Mikey and Zach.

For the past year and a half, he has acted as Publisher to make sure the magazine happens, Editor In Chief coordinating photographers and writers to stories, and photographer on a few choice assignments.

Slap gary some digital skin at gary@arefuge.com or maybe even his A.Refuge profile - its all up to you.

Mike Retrum

Chief Development Officer

Mike, or Mikey as we all know him, has been working on this bad boy since Day 1. A graduate of Indiana University, he joined A.Refuge as Chief Development Officer in pursuit of a career that would bring him passion along with perpetual inspiration.

Mike started his professional career at Palintir Inc. based in Evanston, IL in the fall of 2006. Shortly after realizing that developing web applications for real-world clients was not as fun as he thought, the opportunity to head up site development for A.Refuge arose and there was much rejoicing. As a life-long resident of the Chicago area, Mike has fallen in love with the warmer climate of Los Angeles although he does seem to miss being surrounded by 'Da Bears' faithful.

Mike is responsible for all visual site design as well as sharing programming duties with Zach. He is obsessed with fine details and smooth interfaces, and hey, that's ok with us!

Mike is a talker, so be sure to shoot him a message on his profile, or email him at mretrum@arefuge.com.

Zach Wyckoff

Chief Applications Engineer

Zach's job at Arefuge consists of staying up all hours trying to make the site have some rediculous functionality to keep members coming back. Lately he has learned Ajax and has been trying to re-program interfaces to include this wonderful functionality. He hopes people become addicted to Arefuge.com and provide feedback as to what they like and don't like about the site.

When Zach is not working on Arefuge.com, he likes to play soccer, go to the movies, watch Alias, and drink the jagermeister. Overall he is happy with what has become of the site and hopes that it will catch on to the majority the people that use it.

If you would like to contact Zach about anything, you can email him at zwyckoff@arefuge.com or message him on his arefuge profile.
