Biography
I always confuse biography and statement. Are they the same thing? I started painting a little over 18 months ago and it's been going well. My statement is as follows.
My paintings explore emotions that lie within the mind and heart, and never fail to animate everyday human expression. With every painting I try to reach beyond what a camera or traditional portraiture can fully contain.
I mine films, movie stills, magazines, and books for images of models or actors, and imagine how they might interact with each other, and what hidden emotions might come to the surface. To intensify the reflection of hidden thoughts and feelings, I prefer my subjects to appear unaware that I have captured them with my brush and canvas.
There is a cinematic element in each of my paintings, building on the idea that every person's life is a story worth telling, and every expression of the face reveals so much more than can be hidden. My paintings illuminate aspects of being human that most of us may be unwilling to show strangers, or even show to someone we love.
